CCleaner is intended to restore your system’s performance by eliminating
unnecessary data and obsolete Registry keys. The application’s
tab-based interface makes it very easy to use as you can navigate
through the included settings without difficulty.
Unlike similar applications that wipe old traces and check for registry
errors at the same time, CCleaner includes two differentiated functions
for the mentioned processes. On the one hand, you can use the Cleaner to
find and destroy unnecessary data that may be jeopardizing for your
privacy or occupying space on your hard drive. Thus, you can delete
traces left by the system or the applications, and you can tell the tool
exactly where to search. On the other hand, the Registry Cleaner
searches for duplicate or problem entries. Just like the previously
explained function, you can specify what type of problems to look for.
Right after the scan, you will be presented with a report of the issues
found. Fortunately, you can decide whether you still want to solve or
keep each one of them as they are.
In addition to those functions related to cleaning your PC, the application includes other tools. This way, you can use it to safely uninstall applications, manage the programs or services automatically starting with the system or your browsers, find duplicate files, restore your system to a previous point and wipe a drive. The latter can be used to either wipe the whole drive or just the free space. According to your preferences, it will use secure file deletion with up to 35 overwrite passes and cluster wiping. It will also add an extra item to the Recycle Bin contextual menu, allowing you to safely delete its contents.
In general, CCleaner has a well-deserved reputation among its users. Therefore, it ranks very high on the long list of system optimizers. Unfortunately, I could not find a way to schedule regular scans.
